We had been hearing a lot of buzz around Xiaomi’s new flagship, Mi Mix 2S. Everything has now come to an end as the company just released the device in China. We can put a full stop to the speculations and step into the reality.
The company conducted a launch event in China today and they have just unveiled the device there. In case you don’t know, Huawei is also launching their P20 series today in Paris. Apple also has got an event under their belt, where we expect to see a new low-cost iPad and iPhone SE2.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S Launched in China with 2018 Under-the-Hood Specs
We all know Xiaomi’s popularity in India when it comes to budget devices. They are literally dominating over the other brands in sub 15k and sub 10k price brackets. Despite having the clear dominance in the budget segment, the company couldn’t really do much when it comes to flagship department. Yeah, they have released the bezel-less device before anyone else. Still, some practical difficulties didn’t allow it to be the people’s favorite.
Coming to the topic of discussion, you don’t really feel the Mi Mix 2S as a new device. Xiaomi has followed the same old design we saw with Mix 2 last year. Just like any other device from the same series, the focus is on the display and they call it Full Screen 2.0 on the new offering.
When it comes to the design, you can pick from both black and white models made of ceramic. There is a special edition available that includes an 18K gold rim.
The camera has obviously seen an improvement and they call it Dual Pixel. The placement resembles us of Apple’s tenth anniversary smartphone iPhone X. The camera module houses two 12 MP sensors, of which the main one is Sony IMX363. The company claims the setup can zoom in without any loss in details.
Another feature they have introduced with the camera is multi-frame noise reduction system. In low light, the camera takes multiple images in quick succession to combine them into a single snap for minimizing the noise. Even though benchmarking isn’t the reflection of performance, it is worth noting that the brand-new smartphone from Xiaomi could score a DxOMark of 101.
Under the hood, Mi Mix 2S packs in a Snapdragon 845 chipset (clocked at 2.4 GHz) coupled with 8 GB of RAM and Adreno 630 GPU.
They haven’t globally announced the smartphone yet. Given the launch event is still happening, we will update the post as more details come out.
