Rahul Krishnan • Updated July 25, 2018 • 3 min read •

Xiaomi has grabbed the gadget enthusiasts’ attention last year by launching Mi A1. They have slightly modified Mi 5X to come up with their first Android One device. As we have expected, the company has released Mi A2 by altering the firmware of Mi 6X.

At a global event they conducted in Spain, the company has unveiled both Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite. Although the focus was on Europe, they disclosed that Mi A2 will hit the Indian market but Mi A2 Lite won’t.

When it comes to the specifications of Mi A2, it sports a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display with 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass protection. As we all expected, Xiaomi didn’t disappoint us in the software-front as they have included Android Oreo 8.1 in the device.

Underneath the hood, the phone packs in Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor coupled with Adreno 512 GPU. You will also get RAM up to 6 GB and internal storage up to 128 GB.

Apart from the software, the main highlight of Mi A2 is its cameras. They carry AI integration for improved photos. Xiaomi integrated a 20 MP Sony IMX376 sensor with f/1.75 aperture, fixed focus, and soft LED flash for selfies. On the rear, you will get a rear dual camera setup with a 12 MP primary Sony IMX486 sensor and 20 MP secondary Sony IMX376 sensor. You will also get support for phase detection autofocus and a dual-tone LED flash.

The artificial intelligence features include AI Scene Recognition, Portrait Mode on front and back, AI background Bokeh, and AI Smart Beauty 4.0. You will also get Face Unlock feature along with fingerprint sensor.

The battery capacity is 3010 mAh and it supports QuickCharge 3.0. The company claims it can go from zero to fifty percent in 30 minutes.

Mi A2 Lite is a scaled-down version of Mi A2. It sports a 5.84-inch full-HD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio and a notch up top. Under the hood, you get Snapdragon 625 processor with 3/4 GB of RAM. You are free to choose from 32 and 64 GB of internal storage. The memory expansion allows you to have extra space up to 256 GB.

For optics, the smartphone carries a dual rear camera setup with a 12 MP primary and a 5 MP secondary sensor. Up front, the selfie camera flaunts another 5 MP sensor. Just like Mi A2, A2 Lite also comes up with some AI features to improve photos. The battery capacity here is 4000 mAh.

The Indian pricing hasn’t been revealed yet. In Europe, they have priced the 4 GB/32 GB variant at EUR 249 (around 20,100 INR), 4 GB/ 64 GB at EUR 279 (around 22,500 INR), and 6 GB/ 128 GB at EUR 349 (around 28,100 INR). The Mi A2 Lite’s pricing starts from EUR 179 (around 14,400 INR) for the 3 GB/ 32 GB variant and ends at EUR 229 (around 18,400 INR).

Both the devices will hit the market on August 10 in Spain through Mi.com, authorized dealers, and channel partners.
