You know how things roll with Xiaomi. Most of the times, they introduce a model in China and bring it to India after a few months with a different name. That just happened again as they launched Redmi 5 here.
To recall, the same made its way to China in December last year with the same name. There, it had a sibling named Redmi 5 Plus, which already came here as Note 5 and Note 5 Pro.
Redmi 5 Launched in India at a Starting Price of Rs. 7999
Ever since Xiaomi launched their first smartphone in India, they have grabbed the hearts of gadget enthusiasts with the bang for the bucks specifications. The Redmi Note 3, Note 4, and finally Note 5 series has taken away the market by storm.
As you read already, Note 5 series is a sibling of Redmi 5 (as we take the Chinese launch event into consideration). The company didn’t launch the latter here, maybe, due to the huge expectations from the fans for the next Note iteration.
When it comes down to the specifications, the newly-launched Redmi 5 sports a 5.7-inch display with HD+ resolution (720x 1440 pixels) with the trending 18:9 aspect ratio. The screen also boasts 282 PPI pixel density, eye protection mode, and 450-nit maximum brightness.
Underneath the hood, the phone packs in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. You can choose from 2/3/4 GB RAM variants. Of course, the prices are different as you go from one model to another.
The rear camera houses a 12-megapixel sensor with a lens of f/2.2 aperture, phase detection autofocus, and HDR. Up front, the sensor is only 5 MP, but it has an LED light for selfies. You also get the face recognition feature as well.
Redmi 5 has almost all the necessary sensors including a gyroscope, accelerometer, ambient light sensor, and proximity sensor. And, the fingerprint scanner has found its position on the back. The company flaunts the pyrolytic sheet technology, which they claim helps heat dissipation. The dual SIM device runs on MIUI 9 and the battery capacity is 3300 mAh.
As you already read, there are three variants available. The lower one (2/ 32 GB) costs Rs. 7999, the mid 3/ 32 GB variant costs Rs. 8999, and the high-end 4/ 64 GB comes with a price tag of Rs. 10999.
The company has managed to rope in Jio to offer Rs. 2200 cash back with 100 GB additional data. If you have an SBI credit card, you can earn 5% discount on Amazon. With the smartphone, buyers will get an ultra-slim cover too.
