Xiaomi announces Redmi Note 7 in China with 48MP rear camera and 4000 mAh battery

Abhishek Jariwala • Updated January 11, 2019 • 3 min read •

Xiaomi has just made the official start of their year-long announcements in China. The first smartphone in the company’s list of 2019 launches is the Redmi Note 7. Also worth noting is that the Redmi Note 7 now comes in a separate entity from Xiaomi, Redmi. The official name given by Xiaomi to its sub-brand is “Redmi by Xiaomi“.

Redmi Note 7 is the latest Redmi Note flagship smartphone in the Redmi series. Last year, Redmi Note 5 Pro and Redmi Note 6 Pro were both launched in the same year, at least in India. Now, there are plenty of changes in the Redmi Note 7 from its predecessor which was the Redmi Note 6

First of all, the Redmi Note 7 comes with an all-new design from their previous generations. On the Redmi Note 7, you get glass on both the front as well as the back. The back glass panel of Redmi Note 7 also has a gradient finish. On the front, you get a waterdrop notch which is U-shaped. Apart from that, you have Gorilla Glass 5 protection which gives resistance against minor drops and scratches.

Talking about the display, Redmi Note 7 has a 6.3-inch Full HD+ display thanks to the notch. There is a tiny-yet-noticeable chin at the bottom but the top of its display is bezel-less. The smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 660 SoC from Qualcomm and comes with three RAM options – 3, 4 and 6GB. You also get 32GB and 64GB of internal storage options on the Redmi Note 7.

The major highlight of the Redmi Note 7 this time is its camera. For the first time, Redmi Note 7 comes with an impressive camera on paper. There is a 48MP + 5MP rear camera setup on this device. Along with this, you have a 13MP front camera on this smartphone for selfies. There is a 4000 mAh non-removable battery on this device. Interestingly, Redmi Note 7 now comes with a USB Type-C port, finally.

You also get Quick Charge 4.0 support on this device for fast charging. One and only disappointment on this device is that it still runs Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box. However, you will get MIUI 10 on this device which is the latest version of MIUI, customized Android skin from Xiaomi.

As for pricing, the Redmi Note 7 starts at just 999 Yuan in China which is equivalent to Rs. 10,000 in India for 3/32GB variant. Also, you can buy this device in China starting January 15 from Xiaomi’s official channels.
