The fingerprint scanner is one of the standard features on smartphones today. Over the last few months, we have been hearing news about phones with under-display fingerprint sensors. You might have thought Samsung or Apple would come up with it first. However, Vivo took away the feat.
Recently, at Consumer Electronics Show, Vivo showcased a working prototype of X20, the phone with an under-screen fingerprint scanner. What we didn’t anticipate was the turnaround time for the commercial release. They have made the process quicker and just released the phone in the market.
Vivo X20 Plus UD with Under-Display Fingerprint Sensor Launched
As you read above, we heard under-display fingerprint scanner rumors associated with Apple and Samsung. On the contrary, Vivo X20 Plus UD made a dramatic entrance to become the first one in this segment.
The phone is variant of Vivo X20 Plus which they launched in September last year. The major difference between both the models is the under-screen fingerprint scanner itself. The company has collaborated with Synaptics to develop the technology, which has the name Clear ID 9500. The fingerprint scanner can detect the fingers in a few milliseconds with layers up to 1.5 mm thickness. You don’t have to worry about the presence of screen protectors either.
Barring the signature feature, it carries a 6.43-inch full HD+ AMOLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Not to mention, the place over the fingerprint scanner works like a regular part of the display (you can’t even spot the place actually) in the unlocked state. Underneath the hood, Vivo X20 Plus UD packs in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor (four cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and remaining four cores at 1.8 GHz) coupled with 4 GB RAM.
You get a dual camera setup on the rear of the device. It features a 12 MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and a 5 MP secondary sensor with f/2.0 aperture lens. You can unlock the device using Face Wake. The hybrid dual SIM phone has 128 GB onboard storage and you can expand it up to 256 GB as well.
Vivo X20 Plus UD has all the connectivity options including Bluetooth, WiFi, 4G LTE, GPS, and 3.5-mm headphone jack. All these are powered by a 3900 mAh battery.
In the Chinese market, the phone will go on sale from February 1 at a price of CNY 3598 (around Rs. 36100). They haven’t officially announced the date for the global launch yet. We don’t think they considerably delay this launch given it carries an exclusive tech.
