Smartphones in India 2015: Losers and Winners

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus

Everything was good (even better) starting from look & design to features & Specs. But it still failed to capture the market as expected. Firstly, it is very costly. In a country like India where major population is price sensitive, launching a smartphone above 50000 is like a dream. The second reason for its failure is timing. Samsung has launched its flagship device a couple of months back. Launching this much expensive device was a wrong idea or at least they have to wait for some more time (months). There is no design change from the existing device. The highlight of the device is the dual curved edge display on the front of the handset. It sports a massive 5.7-inch display with brilliant QHD resolution viz. 1440 x 2560 pixels. The device comes with a massive 3000 mAh battery unit.

Another flagship phone that failed to capture the Indian market is Sony’s latest offering, Xperia Z5. It looks almost identical to the Z3 Plus. But this time it is more expensive. Screen bezels are also wider as compared to previous handsets from the same manufacturer. Specs-wise the Sony Xperia Z5 does not disappoint. But if I have to spend 50000 on a smartphone, then it should look different and better from the rest of the devices available in the market. They have incorporated the same boxy design as its precessdors. To be in the market, you need to work on the software and hardware of your device. After the launch of the Xperia Z, all other major smartphone manufacturers have entered in the market every year with new designs and technology. But Sony has not. That’s why it failed.
