Samsung has three significant Galaxy smartphone models; M, A, and S. The first one comes under 20K for budget segment whereas the second one is a bridge from the M series to the most premium Galaxy S series. Most of the time they integrate a new feature to an A series phone to see how the market receives it.
The company has released a new A series smartphone in India. Unveiled in April, A80 managed to pull off a bezel-less display by featuring a rotating camera. You can preorder it in India from July 22 to July 31.
Samsung Galaxy A80 Hits the Market with a Rotating Camera
Let’s jump straight into the specs. The smartphone features a 6.7-inch full-HD+ Super AMOLED New Infinity Display with 20:9 aspect ratio. Going with the trend, the company has embedded an in-display fingerprint scanner as well.
The rotating camera helped Samsung trim the bezels short. Underneath the hood, the device packs in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G chipset coupled with 8 GB RAM.
As for the optics, it has a rotating camera. The setup houses a 48-megapixel primary sensor with an f/2.0 lens and an 8-megapixel secondary sensor with an ultra-wide-angle 123-degree f/2.2 lens. They have also integrated a 3D depth sensor along with the camera and IR sensor.
Samsung Galaxy A80 has Super Steady Mode which they claim to stabilize the video recording. The scene optimizer can recognize up to 30 scenes. Once the phone recognizes the shot, it can enhance the image with optimum settings exclusive for the occasion. The same camera, on triggering the selfie mode will act as a front shooter.
You get 128 GB onboard storage with the phone. However, it is impossible to expand storage using an external SD card. The 3700 mAh battery inside supports 25W fast charging.
The pricing is going to surprise you. Yeah, it costs Rs. 47990 for the 8 GB RAM+ 128 GB storage variant. Those who pre-book the device (July 22- July 30) will get free one-time screen replacement. Citibank credit cardholders can avail 5% discount.
Comes in Angel Gold, Ghost White, and Phantom Black color variants, A80 will go on sale on August 1. You can buy it from all major mobile retail stores, e-commerce sites, Samsung Opera House, and Samsung India online store.
With this price, it is going to compete against the likes of OnePlus 7 Pro, Nokia 9 PureView, and Oppo Reno 10x Zoom. We feel Samsung could have offered at least a Snapdragon 845 in this segment as others have 855.
