Samsung Galaxy Watch to receive a new update that will include a new Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN) feature. The Korean tech giant has released a new press note revealing their announcement of this feature on Galaxy Watch. It’s a feature that will roll out to 13 markets around the world starting this summer.
The IHRN feature takes the aid of Blood Pressure and Electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring. This way it will detect heart rhythms and gives a warning about Atrial fibrillation (A-fib). This new feature will help the users get a clear idea about their heart health more distinctively. The IHRN feature received clearance from FDA a month ago and Samsung has announced the rollout now.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Will Be The First to Receive IHRN Feature
Samsung will first bring the feature to its flagship Galaxy Watch 6. Next, followed by Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 5 series. The feature was approved by the FDA of the United States and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in Korea. The company will first roll out the feature to its home country – Korea and soon to other countries around the globe.
After the US and Korean rollout, the feature will start to make an appearance in Argentina, Azerbaijan, Costa Rica, The Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Georgia, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Panama, and the UAE. The availability of the feature will depend on the market and carrier, and people from everywhere cannot have access to this feature as of now.
The IHRN feature will take advantage of the Galaxy Watch’s ECG and Blood Pressure monitoring to check for irregular heartbeats. If the watch detects an abnormal rhythm, it’ll warn the users. Users will receive a notification regarding a condition called atrial fibrillation (AFib). It’s a condition where the blood clots in the heart lead to a stroke and heart failure if unnoticed.
The inclusion of this new feature in the Samsung Galaxy Watch series will enable users to have a better understanding of their heart’s condition. Apart from IHRN, Samsung will work to bring a few more additional features that will make use of the ECG and Blood Pressure Monitoring system. Currently, IHRN will provide an alert if it detects abnormal low and high heart rates.
