Google Play Store is the only official app store for Android-based smartphones. There are a lot of other third-party app stores, though. Few manufacturers like Xioami also have their app store like GetApps. But they are not as reliable as the official Play Store. However, one significant downside of the Google Play Store is that it does not allow the user to parallel download apps and games.
People barely downloading apps and updating them won’t notice the lack of this feature. But when you are in a hurry to download some important apps or maybe to update them, you have to wait a long time considering the app does not support parallel download. It will only update or download the apps one by one, which is slow.
Play Store’s Parallel download feature is here for Android!
But it seems that Google has finally acknowledged the lack of this feature and they are now adding it. Yes, you heard it right. Google is finally adding the parallel download feature to its Play Store for Android.
To give you a quick rewind, back in 2019, Google had tried testing out the simultaneous app download in the app store but it didn’t seem to be working out properly. And because of this, they had to roll back the feature before it was implemented.
Considering the record of Google, there’s again a catch in this announcement as well. As of now, only the fresh apps and games downloaded will support the parallel downloading feature. They won’t include updates. They may or may not add support to updating apps in the future. Updates will still be downloaded one by one.
Google has not yet clarified the exact reason behind why they did not implement the feature in the Updates section as well. However, one simple logic which we denote would be how the Android works. App Bundles, which are widely used these days, allow updates to download only the updated portions of an app rather than the complete package. Because the new components must be merged with the current software, this decreases the download size but increases processing time. Google decided to keep updates coming in sequential order because this procedure could potentially tax the device’s resources, especially when there are a lot of updates.
Well, keeping the limitations aside, this is surely going to be one of the best additions to the Google Play Store in its history. We have strong hopes that Google may add parallel download support to the updates section as well.
