In recent events, OxygenOS from OnePlus has merged with ColorOS from OPPO. Both the companies have come under one shell when Pete Lau; has announced that both the companies will work together.
Now, the BBK sub-groups have decided to use the same platform for bringing new updates on their Android devices. OnePlus has taken a big decision on their devices, where they are gonna use ColorOS in the Chinese regions.
The audiences in India and other regions have criticized OnePlus for taking this drastic decision. But, OnePlus has stated that these changes are only for the Chinese audiences. The change of OS is not applicable in India and other regions because; the whole point of purchasing a OnePlus device for many users is OxygenOS.
Although, OnePlus is trying to convince these new changes; only to bring a standardized platform for Android updates on its devices.
OnePlus Merging with ColorOS for Better Future OxygenOS Updates
OnePlus has posted a thread on their forum regarding the news of merge and stated
After a lot of evaluation and discussion, we’ve come up with a solid plan to best leverage our shared resources with OPPO.
The companies are going to share their resources and work on integrating the codebase of OxygenOS and ColorOS. This move from the companies will help them to standardize their software experience and for better updates in the OxygenOS.
The flagship killer brand has even announced its plans on life span for updates which gives us a clear idea of the upcoming software updates. Currently, the OnePlus flagship devices like T and R variants will get three major Android updates and four years of security updates. The Nord series of the OnePlus will receive two major Android updates and three years of security updates.
However, The Nord N line-up will have one major Android update and three years of security updates. The previous variants of OnePlus like the 8-series and older versions are out of these plans; this is a piece of unfortunate news for those users. In fact, OnePlus has used OPPO’s patents and many resources; and now both companies are officially together.
The OnePlus as a company was started as an independent entity although, it was under BBK and OnePlus. We have no idea in which direction the company is headed with these recent decisions and events.
Still, the integration of both software with one codebase is a welcoming decision. This is because it helps OxygenOS for future updates and both the companies can go hand-in-hand with the support of their software versions on their devices.
