The major content streaming platform Netflix ends password sharing in India. The platform will allow a single Netflix account holder to use the services by only one household. The reason behind the banning of password sharing of Netflix accounts is to increase its revenue in the coming months of 2023.
Netflix has addressed the same to all its users in India in an email regarding the new password-sharing norms. The email sent to the subscribers of Netflix India included a note that stated that a single account would be limited to a single household. The plans to stop password sharing were announced in May and now, Netflix has started making changes.
Netflix Ends Password Sharing: Limits Account to only one Household
The streaming giant has started sending emails to remind users regarding the end of password sharing for Indian subscribers. The account should be solely for themselves and members of their household as per the new rules of Netflix. Users other than their household must immediately transfer their account to a new account.
The letter stated that Netflix will provide a new option of “extra member” functionality that will not be available in India. The subscribers other than the household members need to transfer their existing profiles to their own accounts at an additional cost. However, the ‘extra member’ service comes as a paid service to continue password sharing on a Netflix account.
Netflix is not providing the ‘extra member’ service in Indonesia, Croatia, Kenya, and India for a reason. Especially in the previously mentioned countries, Netflix has significantly cut down the subscription prices, and that’s the sole reason to not bring this feature. Furthermore, Netflix reveals that there’s not much revenue and user base in these countries in comparison to other countries.
Meanwhile, the paid sharing feature rolled out in more than 100 countries worldwide which includes the United States, Britain, France, Germany, and others. These new moves made by Netflix have brought a significant change in their revenue numbers. The streaming platform has gained nearly 6 million subscribers making a total of 238 million users as of now.
The new norms created by Netflix to stop the exploitation of accounts for multiple profiles should increase their revenue as per their plans. If you have a Netflix account you need to head to the account’s Security and Privacy settings to check the log details. The users have the vicinity to manage the profiles that access their accounts without proper authorization.
