Cyanogen is Dead! Yes, you read that right, if you follow tech, you already know this and if you don’t well here’s a shocker for you. All Cyanogen services, nightly build and official support have been terminated. Since Lineage OS is basically similar to CyanogenMod most devices already supported either officially or unofficially by CM should get further development into Lineage OS.

Should I expect a Lineage OS build for my device?

A simple answer to that should be yes and no; let me explain. If your device already had a CM 13 or a CM 14 or higher build then there is a high possibility that you can download Lineage OS on your device, but what if you don’t? Well in that case if any developer gets intrigued by your device and if it has an active community you may stand a chance to download Lineage OS build but if not consider yourself unlucky and maybe get a new device.

A lot of unofficial and official Lineage OS based on Android 7.1 are available for a handful of devices on XDA and other community forums, but since Lineage being an infant brand, it will take some time for us to see official builds from them.

If an OEM is developer friendly and supports 3^rd party ROMs such as CM, then you can rest assured of Lineage OS popping up someday soon. It’s the Tier 1 manufacturers like Samsung and LG or Sony who are against the usage of Custom ROMs which may face a problem, but the better chunk of these devices already run CM, so they most probably will get updated to Lineage OS.

If you like your stock ROM then good for you, you can just sit back and relax. If you are one of us the tinkerers, then I would recommend you to download Lineage OS build just to try it for the sake of it.

As Cyanogen has officially ended support for its CyanogenMod, it makes for one of the foremost reasons to upgrade to either lineage OS or another ROM you may like. Another reason is to get almost stock like feel on the device with very minimal to no bloat at all and lastly if you are the kind of person who doesn’t stick by the rules and want to have fun with their devices then this is one ROM you should try once in your devices lifetime.

Lineage OS will be much more refined and improved as compared to CyanogenMod which was at times buggy and choppy, it will have the best features from Cyanogen carried over and then add improved and enhanced features which would be new to lineage.

One of the main reasons the community loved the Cyanogen OS was because of its vast customization capabilities over the stock ROM shipped with the phone itself. We expect the customization to remain the same and even improved. The unofficial builds available now are decently stable and usable with a few knick knacks here and there which are being sorted for later builds.
