Last year, Lenovo made an announcement of acquiring Motorola for an undisclosed amount. After the acquisition, Lenovo tried to re-brand Motorola as just Moto but that did not work out as planned. Later, the company decided to revive Moto as Motorola and let it run as a separate entity.
However, Motorola has recently had tough times and they have themselves to blame. Lack of software support and innovation has meant that the Motorola brand isn’t as strong as before. But most of us should still have fond memories about Motorola and their iconic phones. One of those devices is the Moto Razr which was a flip phone. We are now hearing that the iconic Moto Razr is making a comeback.
Moto Razr might soon make a comeback as a foldable smartphone
Yes, you read that right as Moto Razr is indeed making a comeback if reports are true. Moto Razr, the beloved flip phone from the company, is coming back as a smartphone. Not only is it going to be a smartphone but a foldable one at that.
Now, this report was first published by the Wall Street Journal. The publication states that Moto Razr will be launched as soon as next month in the US. Also, Moto Razr is going to be a Verizon-exclusive.
WSJ also adds that the device is currently being tested and the details are yet to be finalized. However, “people familiar with the matter” have claimed that the device will launch next month.
On the other hand, the starting price of the device has also been known. WSJ reports that the Moto Razr may be launched at a whopping $1500 in the US. This means that if you want to own the iconic device than it will cost you a premium.
Now, we should understand that the foldable smartphone technology is new and expensive. Therefore, we should not make a judgment right now that the Moto Razr is going to be overpriced. But we do feel that the smartphone will have to be better than the iPhone XS or the Pixel 3 to have great sales.
Moto Razr foldable smartphone is reported to come with an OLED display. Apart from that, the device will be powered by Snapdragon 855 SoC which is the flagship processor from Qualcomm. On the other hand, Samsung is also launching their foldable smartphone called the Galaxy X. Interestingly, Galaxy X from Samsung will reportedly come at a premium price tag too.
