We have reported the arrival of Huawei’s P20 and P20 Pro earlier. In the same event, the company has launched another device named Mate RS, designed by the luxurious firm, Porsche. When you compare Mate RS with that of P20 Pro, almost all the internals are the same. The design language is where the difference kicks in.
Yesterday, three major events happened worldwide. Xiaomi launched Mi Mix 2S, Apple unveiled their new iPad, and Huawei, the Porsche design Mate RS.
Huawei Mate RS with Porsche Design, Triple Camera Setup, and 512 GB Storage Launched
Huawei’s Mate series is their premium smartphone range. Mate RS is not an exception here. You might see a small tinge of Mate 10 Pro on the new offering.
As we go down to the specifications, the phone sports a 6-inch QHD+ (1440x 2880) OLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio. You get IP67 water and dust resistance, which make the phone a premium one. In comparison with P20 Pro, Mate RS doesn’t have a display notch. Moreover, you also get an under-screen fingerprint scanner in addition to the one present on the rear.
The dual SIM device packs in the company’s own HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset (four Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.36GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz) that houses a dedicated Neural Processing Unit for Artificial Intelligence capabilities. The 6 GB of RAM gives ample room for multitasking.
The main highlight of the device is the rear triple camera setup. The topmost 8 MP sensor coupled with Leica telephoto lens allows the users to zoom-in (optically) up to 3X dimension. The second RGB sensor measures 40 MP and the one on the bottom is 20 MP monochrome. Between the lenses, they have placed a laser transmitter for faster autofocus and a Leica color temperature sensor. Along with the 3X optical zoom, you can also leverage from 5X lossless hybrid zoom and 10X digital zoom.
The front camera has a 24.8 megapixel fixed focus sensor coupled with a f/2.0 aperture.
Huawei Porsche Design Mate RS has a 360-degree face unlock feature, which the company claims, will unlock the device in 0.6 seconds. It has EMUI 8.1 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. You can pick from two variants, 256 GB (priced at around Rs. 136400) and 512 GB (priced at around Rs. 168600). The 4000-mAh phone will go on sale from April 12 in selected markets. Although they have unveiled both Red and Black color variants, the former is exclusive to China only.
