HTC to Launch a Squeezable Smartphone on May 16

Rahul Krishnan • Updated April 21, 2017 • 3 min read • Leave a Comment

We witnessed many innovations on smartphones. Edge-to-edge display, modular design, and bezel-less screen are some of them. HTC is all set to come up with their next phone that has an innovative feature.

The company has not been at the top of the business now. Who knows? Maybe, the new smartphone they are aiming to launch in the next month will bring their lost glory back.

If you are a person who pursues tech news, you may remember the code name of the next HTC Phone, Ocean. The same smartphone will most probably have the name ‘U’ as it gets launched.

You may misinterpret the word squeezable. No, the device will not be rubbery. On the other hand, you can accomplish different tasks and open multiple apps using squeeze-like gestures on the edge of the smartphone.

You can open the camera, Google assistant, some HTC’s own apps and do much more by squeezing or swiping up and down. Moreover, the company may include an option to customize the choice as well. They have brought the new feature, dubbed as Edge Sense technology by embedding pressure sensors on the side.

You will not buy a smartphone only because of an innovative feature; we are sure about that, so does HTC. That’s why they decided to come up with top-notch flagship level specifications on HTC U.

According to the leaks, it will have a Snapdragon 835 processor underneath the hood, the one Samsung opt for the S8 and S8 Plus. The processor coupled with 4/6 GB RAM is supposed to perform well even in the intensive scenarios.

They may stick to 5.5-inch display with QHD resolution. Gorilla Glass protection has become a custom now. So, HTC will not back up there. The leaks share a concern about the battery life. The leaked 3000 mAh battery may not provide a commendable juice for a phone with QHD display. We hope they may up the battery capacity by the time of the launch.

Most probably, the smartphone sports a 12 MP camera on the back and a 16 MP selfie camera. A move we understand the reason behind provided the immense popularity of selfies.

And, it will have all the connectivity options with typical facilities like the fingerprint scanner. We haven’t got any details about the pricing yet. Taking the tradition of HTC into consideration, we don’t feel it is going to be cheap, though.
