You know the Indian eCommerce arena is ruled by Amazon and Flipkart. Ever since Amazon made its entry into the country, the latter tends to be losing revenue and customers. The Prime service introduced by Amazon benefits the users through Music and Prime Video.
As a part of taking down the monopoly of the multinational company, they have introduced Flipkart Plus that works on a coin system. We don’t think it gained enough momentum to take down Amazon Prime.
Flipkart Started Rolling out their Video Service
Indian streaming field isn’t deserted. Starting from Netflix, we have quite a few (Hotstar, ALTBalaji, JioTV, and Eros Now). None of them allows you to enjoy your favorite content for free.
The Walmart-backed company is aiming to become the first to offer free streaming. They have also added an ‘Idea’ section to offer curated content feeds.
They haven’t yet announced the companies that are going to join hands with them. What we know is there are no scopes for original content at first. Looking at the dedicated section for videos now shows content from Dice Media, TVF, Voot, and Arre.
In case you don’t know what we are talking about, you can witness it yourself. You need to install the latest version of Flipkart (version 6.17) from Play Store. Sideloading the app using APK files from reputed sources will also uncover the new feature.
On the completion of the installation, you can check the sidebar menu (click on the top-left button) for Videos. In order to personalize the experience, the application will ask you to select at least three videos. Once done, you will start getting a curated catalog of TV shows and movies. It is possible for the users to follow a particular channel or actor to get notified when their new video goes live.
You can save the videos into My List so that they can be viewed later. The application possesses a share button in case you want anyone to see a video.
Just like any other streaming service, Flipkart also allows you to choose the video quality. Three choices are available; Auto, Good, and Data Saver. And, forward and backward buttons to skip 10 seconds are also present. During playback, you can jump to any episode of the show.
If you are a fan of offline mode, you will have to disappoint yourself with Flipkart Videos. They haven’t added any such service so far. Given its nascent stage, we may see this feature along with some others in the future.
