Beeper Mini Blocked by Apple: An Application that brought iMessage on Android

Kaushik Battu • Updated December 14, 2023 • 2 min read •

Beeper Mini is an application that brings iMessage on Android, which has run for quite some time recently. The application will allow Android users to send blue-bubble texts to iOS devices.

However, the tech giant has blocked the functionality of this application. Many users have also reported the issues they were facing while using the application.

As an update, Apple released a statement stating they were the reason for blocking the application. The iMessage services relied on the server relays whereas the Beeper Mini was able to function without any support of the server relays. Apple was keen to protect its privacy and in this process, they have taken this measure on Beeper Mini on Android.

Apple Blocks Beeper Mini due to Security Concerns faced with iMessage Service

The Beeper Mini was launched recently on Android to allow users to send blue bubble messages from Android to iOS or iMessage users.

This attempt to bring support for blue bubble texts is similar to the Nothing’s service that was recently announced. However, Apple has blocked the app from running the services and this caused the application to face an outage.

On the other hand, Beeper states that the application is safe and started to work on the to run again normally. After the blockage from Apple, the service has given a pop-up screen notification as “failed to look on server: lookup request timed out.” Beeper Mini has acknowledged the issue after numerous reports from the users and announced the working status of the service.

The main reason behind the blocking of the Beeper service by Apple was the Security concerns. Apple has removed access to iMessage for Beeper Mini, as it exploited “fake credentials.” The same was stated by Apple saying that this measure was taken to avoid significant risks to security and privacy. Meanwhile, Beeper states that they provide end-to-end encryption on their messaging platform.
