The Cupertino tech giant previously planned to enter the all-new automobiles segment by introducing its own Apple Car. The brand formed a dedicated team for the plan and they worked on it for more than a decade.
However, due to some sudden shift in the plan, Apple canceled its project to enter the automobile industry. Concerning the employees under this project, they were supposed to be reallocated to different departments but now, there’s some bad news for them.
Apple will cut over 700 jobs due to the cancellation of the Apple Car project
Layoff has become a common term in recent times. Almost all the giants like Google and Meta are laying off their employees. This is because of numerous reasons such as economic slowdown, the introduction of AI to the departments, and even more.
And now, Apple is also planning to lay off around 700 employees from their team. The reason behind this move of Apple is not exactly something like an economic slowdown, but rather their past plans for Apple Car that are now scraped.
To give you a fresh perspective, when Apple planned its entrance to the automobile industry, it formed a completely different team for research and development of it. Some employees were hired fresh and some were picked up from the existing team. But given that the project has been canceled and according to the fresh reports, all of these employees will be fired soon.
And to be more precise, not all the employees are going to be fired from the automobile development team. Around 58 of its employees are going to be fired from their Micro-LED team from Santa Clara. Further, around 120 employees are going to be fired from its San Diego office. The brand reportedly had a Siri data operations office in San Diego and it was closed recently.
Apart from this, all the employees mainly would be from the Apple Car team. Layoff is something that no employee ever wants to hear of. This is also the first mass layoff being done by the brand after the COVID-19 pandemic. We would have to wait to get more official updates on the report. The brand may choose to go with some other options. But as it has been said; once a business, always a business.
